BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) _ University at Buffalo faculty members from different fields are getting together to tackle global challenges like health equity and sustainable manufacturing.

UB last week announced it is investing $25 million over the next five years in a “communities of excellence” initiative. The initiative teams faculty members to work together on research, education and community engagement.

Faculty at the university submitted nearly 100 ideas for communities of excellence. Three were chosen. They will focus on reducing disparities in health around the world, sustainable manufacturing and genomics, which will work to advance development of personalized medicine.

More than 300 faculty members from across UB’s schools are participating.
