Artists, non-profit organizations and business owners can learn how to map out their futures at a workshop Saturday, July 24 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center, 6161 Northwest 22nd Ave. in Miami.

Candidates for the Miami Dade County School Board in District 2 will meet voters at a town hall forum Thursday, Aug. 5, at 6:30 p.m. at Freedom Hall,, 8400 NW 25th Ave.

The forum is sponsored by  “The Posse,” adult male volunteers from the Development Revolution, an educational initiative developed earlier this year by the Urban League of Greater Miami to involve adults in the organization’s efforts to raise the academic level in Liberty City.

TALLAHASSEE (AP) — The Republican-controlled Florida House abruptly ended a special legislative session Tuesday, July 20 just 43 minutes after it began without voting on Gov. Charlie Crist's proposed constitutional amendment to ban offshore drilling in state waters.

The nearly party-line vote to adjourn may have dealt Crist, who quit the GOP to run for U.S. Senate as an independent, a legislative defeat in record time. But Crist, as well as Democrats, seized on this issue.
