MIAMI — The U.S. Business Group of Sun Life Financial Inc. and the Miami Dolphins have announced that they are accepting Sun Life Rising Star Award grant applications from nonprofit organizations in South Florida that advocate for youth from underserved communities.

MIAMI GARDENS — More than 150 students tossed their tassels and in an instant became college graduates during the 2013 Spring Commencement ceremony, Saturday morning May 11 at Florida Memorial University, South Florida’s only historically black university.

MIAMI – Miami-Dade public school teachers made history May 16 when Fedrick Ingram was sworn in as the first African-American president of their union, the United Teachers of Dade (UTD). It will make it the first time in the UTD’s 83 year history that a black man will lead the organization.

WEST PALM BEACH — And for the fifth straight year, the winner is … The Education Network! The Palm Beach County School District’s station, The Education Network, has been honored with its seventh Telly Award, from among nearly 12,000 entries from all 50 states and numerous countries. The award — in the information category for The Eighth Wonder of the World: Henry Flagler’s Over-Sea Railroad — is considered  a sign of creative excellence.
