green-shayon-web.jpgTALLAHASSEE (AP) — University of Miami defensive end Shayon Green and Florida State University tailback Chris Thompson are sharing this year’s Atlantic Coast Conference Brian Piccolo Award.

The honor is given annually to the most courageous player in the conference. Both athletes overcame serious injuries to become major contributors to their teams.

The award is named for Brian Piccolo, the ACC Athlete of the Year in 1965, who died from cancer in 1970 at age 26. Green was the Hurricanes’ leading tackler this fall after recovering from a variety of major injuries in the three previous seasons.
