The next workshop in the series is titled Paying for College, and will focus on how to finance a student’s higher education pursuits.
The free workshop is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 19, 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at Vision to Victory Human Services Corporation, 13230 N.W. Seventh Ave., Miami.

During the workshop, students will be able to learn about the various options to pay for a college education and will have the opportunity to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Refreshments will be provided and raffle prizes awarded.

To complete the FAFSA, students are asked to come with a parent or guardian and bring the following materials, if available: parent’s 2011 Income Tax Form or last 2012 paycheck stub; student’s Social Security number; student’s FAFSA PIN, if one has already been created.

“One of the most challenging questions families face is how to pay for a student’s college education. I want students and parents to fully understand their financing options,” Monestime said. “The more educated our community becomes about college financial aid, the less
stressful the college application process becomes.”

The final installment in the workshop series will be Succeeding in College, on April 20, 2013.

The You Can Go to College series is a partnership between Commissioner Jean Monestime, the University of Miami School of Education and Human Development, the University of Miami Centers for Latin American Studies, College Summit and Vision to Victory Human Services Corporation. The program is sponsored by a grant from the Deutsche Bank of Americas Foundation.
