MIAMI _ A Miami police officer who fatally shot an unarmed man has been fired after a review board found he used ``unjustified'' deadly force.

The Miami Herald (http://hrld.us/Wh6xWs ) reports that Reynaldo Goyos was fired Wednesday, nearly two months after the Miami Police Department's Firearms Review Board issued its finding.

The shooting happened in February 2011 as Goyos and a multi-agency task force targeted gang members. According to reports, Goyos approached the suspects' vehicle and opened fire after seeing a ``black object'' on Travis McNeil.

McNeil died and Kareem Williams his cousin, was injured.

The incident unfolded February 11, 2011, as Goyos was riding in an unmarked Chevy Suburban during a multi-agency nightclub surveillance detail in Miami's Little River neighborhood. Officers began tailing McNeil and his cousin after they left the Take One Lounge and appeared to be intoxicated.

Records state the men were pulled over at North Miami Avenue and 75th Street, at which point Goyos reportedly approached the vehicle yelling "Show me your hands!" and "Don't do it!" before shooting three times into the driver's side of McNeil's car.

It was the seventh fatal shooting of a young black man over an eight-month period, raising tensions in inner city neighborhoods.

McNeil's mother Sheila McNeil said the officer's firing ``doesn't help my son a whole lot.''
