Eggelletion arrested again, this time on state corruption charges PDF Print E-mail
Written by ELGIN JONES

josephus_eggelletion.jpgSuspended Broward County Commissioner Josephus Eggelletion Jr. turned himself in to prosecutors on Thursday on state corruption charges.

Eggelletion surrendered to authorities Thursday at the Broward Main Jail in Fort Lauderdale on one count of unlawful compensation, according to Ron Ishoy, a spokesman at the Broward State Attorney’s Office.

The charge is related to a $3,200 golf membership that Shawn Chait, an employee of Prestige Homes of South Florida, Inc. and the son of the company’s president, paid to the Parkland Golf & Country Club.

Prosecutors say the payment was in exchange for nearly three years of favorable treatment for Prestige Homes on business before the county commission.

Tim Donnelly, head of the Broward State Attorney's Office special prosecutions unit, said the new charge against Eggelletion is part of an ongoing public-corruption investigation.

Federal agents also arrested Eggelletion on Sept. 23 in connection with an unrelated money-laundering scheme that also netted Broward School Board Member Beverly Gallagher and former Miramar City Commissioner Fitzroy Salesman. Gov. Charlie Crist suspended Eggelletion after that arrest.

Concerned Tax Payer

Eggelletion is one of too many weeds being allowed to rob Broward County tax payers. There are so-called business men and women, and corrupt politicians throughout the county who have been known criminals for years and the community sits on its hands instead of ousting them from office and sending them to jail. Oh,my bad; that would require a concerned prosecuter and competent Judges. Local publications have exposed their corrupt exploits and the pleas from community activist fall on deaf ears. Yes, it's about time!

Why is his picture still on the Broward County website as a sitting commissioner?

About time. But is this marsh mellow charge simply designed to keep the feds from filing real charges against the Commissioner? Think people, think.
