Strapped home and business owners facing foreclosure or other difficulties can get free financial advice at a conference Friday, July 30, and Saturday, July 31 sponsored by the Collective Banking Group of Miami-Dade & Vicinity.

The CBG's 2010 Empowerment Conference will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days at the Koinonia Worship Center & Village in Pembroke Park.

There is no charge to attend the gathering, which will feature workshops on financial support for small businesses and on how to prevent foreclosure.  An opening worship service will be held at the Koinonia Center on July 29 at 7 p.m.

The CBG is a nationwide organization of Christian churches focused on empowering the black community, both spiritually and financially. According to its website, the Miami CBG has 73 member churches, representing a minimum of 40,000 people.

“As an economic force, we are working to help empower the individuals and community,” said the Rev. Dr. Joaquin Willis, president of the local CBG and pastor of the Church of the Open Door in Liberty City.
“The need for this has become very apparent.”

Conference organizers said the goal is to give participants immediate solutions that they can implement immediately.

Advisors from community organizations and major financial institutions will be on hand to discuss foreclosure prevention, review financial documents, help participants complete and file necessary paperwork, and give instant responses to loan applications.

Among the participating organizations are Partners for Self-Employment, Bank of America, CitiMortgage, OneUnited Bank, Equivest, Neighborhood Housing Services of South Florida, Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America, the U.S. Small Business Administration, ACCION and Citibank.
