African-centered charter school to remain open

amefika-geuka_web.jpgFor six agonizing months, the School District of Palm Beach County held the possibility of closure over the head of the Joseph Littles-Nguzo Saba Charter School of Riviera Beach. But in a rather uneventful, yet important hearing on Wednesday, July 28, the school board voted unanimously to allow Nguzo Saba, the only African-centered public school in Florida, to remain open.

 
Musical effort seeks to lift Jamaican Diaspora

beres-hammond_web.jpgA campaign whose purpose is to elevate the way Jamaica is viewed and the way Jamaicans view themselves has launched – coincidentally just weeks after the tumultuous extradition of accused drug kingpin Christopher “Dudus” Coke.

"I am Jamaica," reads the slogan for the campaign. It asks Jamaicans and friends of Jamaica to sign a declaration of accountability.

 
Police chief accused of fixing ex-commissioner’s traffic ticket

richard_e._perez__web_3.jpgWilton Manors Police Chief Richard E. Perez, already under investigation for alleged perjury , now faces a new allegation that he submitted a false affidavit to the courts in order to dismiss a traffic ticket issued to a former city commissioner.

As a result of Perez’s affidavit, the judge issued an order dismissing the case against former City Commissioner Diane Cline, for stopping in traffic on the tracks at a railroad crossing.
