TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) _ Florida's top election official wants more time and more places for early voting. Secretary of State Ken Detzner on Monday gave Gov. Rick Scott a list of recommendations on how to improve elections.
Scott asked for the report in the wake of the 2012 election where
some voters spent hours waiting in line. It also took days for the
state to finish counting ballots.
Scott has already endorsed giving counties up to 14 days of early
voting. Scott two years ago signed a bill that cut the number of days
available for early voting.
Detzner is also recommending that the deadline for requesting
absentee ballots be moved up. He also advocates putting word limits on
constitutional amendments in order to keep the ballot from being too
long.
