The event, at Broward College’s downtown Willis Holcombe Center, 111 E. Las Olas Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, 8 a.m., - noon, is part of the Subtropical Cities Conference that Broward College is co-hosting with Florida Atlantic University and Queensland University of Technology, to bring attention to the positive impact of increasing Fort Lauderdale’s tree canopy.

Residents will be given the choice of shade, fruit or ornamental trees while supplies last. To qualify for a tree, one must live within the city of Fort Lauderdale and show proof of residency, which can be established by presenting a current driver’s license or recent utility bill.

Parking is free and available in the lot shared by Broward College and Florida Atlantic University, located just north of E. Las Olas Boulevard between S.E. Second and S.E. Third Avenue.

Fort Lauderdale residents who are unable to attend the event may receive trees through the city’s Save a Tree, Plant a Tree program.
