MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Efforts to close the gap between the “haves” and the “havenots” continue to spring up across the country. Initiatives to teach financial literacy so that black communities can gain a greater understanding of what it takes to build wealth are being offered with greater frequency and the city of Miami Gardens is among the entities presenting such information.

April is “Financial Literacy Month,” and to celebrate, the city is offering a series of seminars throughout the month designed to equip its residents with tools and information that can be used to improve their financial circumstances.

“Becoming financially empowered is one of the most liberating experiences of someone’s life. I am hosting the Money Matters Miami Gardens financial literacy series because our residents should experience that same feeling,” said Miami Gardens Mayor Oliver Gilbert.

“My goal with this month-long series is to equip residents of all ages with the confidence and knowledge to make better financial decisions when it comes to investing, planning for retirement or college, shopping for insurance, and rebuilding credit to purchase a home. Throughout the month of April, I encourage residents to come with questions and join me, Henderson Financial Group, and a host of financial experts to get financially fit,” Gilbert said of the seminars, which are free and will be held at the Betty T. Ferguson Recreational Complex, 3000 NW 199th Street in Miami Gardens. For more information, visit moneymattersmg.com.
