PEORIA, Ill. (AP) _ Peoria Public Library patrons have free access to more than 8 million songs and 5,000 movies through a new digital service.

The (Peoria) Journal Star reports (http://bit.ly/1GTE0ci ) the service is called Freegal (FREE’-guhl). Library patrons can watch up to three movies a week at home. They just click a link on the library’s website. Music streaming is limited to three hours per day.

There’s also a Freegal app for mobile devices. Users need a Peoria Public Library card and ID number.

Patrons have streamed more than 1,400 songs and downloaded more than 50 movies since the service was announced last month.

Library Assistant Director Roberta Koscielski says the library is committed to keeping up with changing technology. But library officials realize some people prefer traditional formats _ even books.
