Performance arts doubleheader
MIAMI – Seasoned poets join emerging artists to wax poetic in a special back-to-back edition as The Black Archives History & Research Foundation of South Florida presents Youth Expressions at 5 p.m. and Expressions at 7 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 17 at the Ward Gallery, 249 N.W. Ninth St., Miami.
Admission for Youth Expressions is $5 at the door. Admission for Expressions is $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Tickets are available at theblackarchives.org or by calling 305-636-2390.
The Youth Expressions showcase will feature youngsters presenting their own spin on the regular monthly format featuring spoken word, musical and performing arts.
Following the youth edition, Expressions will feature music by Jody Hill and Deep Fried Funk Band, a cash bar and food available for purchase, as well as featured spoken word performers Anomaly, Poettis and the venue’s first nationally recognized visiting poet, Taalam Acey.

The conference aim is to offer solutions and preventive measures for Florida’s rates of adolescent sexual activity being higher than comparable national rates for high school students, and its ranking first for rates of new HIV cases among 13-19 year-old adolescents.White, a teacher, author, philanthropist, mother and motivational speaker, hosts a television program, Paula Today. which has been seen in more than 200 countries worldwide, and spearheads global humanitarian efforts.
