PR NEWSWIRE — Chicago native Daniel Rutherford Wilson has joined the Washington, D.C. staff of the Denver-based nonprofit Compassion & Choices. Previously, he was director of policy and program development for the National Caucus and Center on Black Aged Inc. in Washington, D.C.
“I am so excited to be a part of a great movement,” Wilson said. “We are educating individuals and their families to be advocates for their own health care. When you know better, you live better.”
Wilson’s political experience includes an appointment from then-President Bill Clinton as a public affairs officer in the Office of Management and Budget.
He also has served as staff assistant to U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer (NY) and regional finance coordinator for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee under the leadership of U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey (NY).
“Daniel’s unique combination of expertise on aging issues and political experience make him ideally suited to effectively building and growing our national campaigns,” said Compassion & Choices Chief Program Officer Mickey MacIntyre. “We are very excited that Daniel is joining Compassion & Choices because we are confident he can advance our work on improving care and expanding choice at the end of life.”
In 2012, Wilson earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in Mortuary Science from the University of the District of Columbia. He also has a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia.
Wilson, his wife, Keely, and their son, Rutherford, live in Alexandria, Va. With more than 30 local groups and 60,000 members and supporters throughout the United States, Compassion & Choices leads the end-of-life choice movement.
