The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald reports that (http://bit.ly/VSQUzc) Phillipp Brown, who is black, filed the lawsuit last week.

The 16-year veteran officer alleges the fellow officers used racial slurs and made inappropriate jokes about the Ku Klux Klan, among other things.

He alleges that created a hostile work environment.

Elgin officials declined to comment to the newspaper. Messages left Monday for a police spokesman and union official weren't immediately returned.

The lawsuit calls for discipline against the officers and seeks to force the police department to provide racial sensitivity training for all employees.
