MIAMI GARDENS — Members of the Dade County (FL) Chapter of The Links, Inc. have presented $10,000 to Florida Memorial University President Dr. Henry Lewis III, to support scholarships at the university.
The national arm of The Links, Inc., has undertaken the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Initiative to implement and support efforts that align with President Barack Obama’s plan to increase the retention and graduation rates of students attending college by year 2020.
The Links, Inc., was founded in 1946 and is one of the oldest and largest volunteer service organizations of women who are committed to enriching and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry. The organization has a membership of more than 12,000 professional women.
This year the Dade County Chapter, The Links, Inc., chartered in June 1986, celebrated 25 years of service to the Miami-Dade community.
