Musharraf told a crowd of about 300 Saturday at Lake Mary he wants to bring an economic recovery to Pakistan. The event was hosted by the Florida chapter of Friends of Pakistan First.

The crowd gave him a standing ovation. Some shouted “Long live Musharraf'' in Urdu, the language in which he delivered much of his speech.

Musharraf stepped down as president in 2008 amid protests and under threat of impeachment. He now lives in Britain.

The former president formed a new political party this year and is targeting a presidential run in 2013. He has not said when he will return to Pakistan.
