TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) _ A federal judge will hear a libertarian group's request that he block enforcement of Florida's campaign finance law governing political action committees and similar groups.
The request from the Institute for Justice is based on a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision lifting restrictions on corporate and union spending on political campaigns. The hearing is scheduled for Monday afternoon in Tallahassee.
The libertarians want the law thrown out so PACs no longer would be required to register with the state and tell who gave them money and what they spent it on.
The institute previously won a lawsuit challenging a portion of the same law that has since been revised to remove provisions a federal judge declared unconstitutional.
