TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -Lawmakers have released the first in a series of reports to study of the impact of gaming in Florida. Spectrum Gaming Group's report was made public Monday.
The report evaluates the history and current state of gambling in Florida, which includes a state-sanctioned lottery and casinos run by the Seminole Tribe.
The next part, which is set for release in October, will assess potential changes and economic effects and statistical relationships between gaming and economic variables for communities.
Florida House and Senate Select Committees on Gaming commissioned the study in April, agreeing to pay New Jersey-based Spectrum $400,000.
The report does not make policy recommendations. The stated purpose of the study is to lay the groundwork for policy choices lawmakers will consider during the 2014 legislative session.
