A woman of faith who was among the founders of a church in north central Miami-Dade County is getting set to retire after many years of service as pianist.
Dorothy Peoples was among 21 people who helped form Bible Missionary Baptist Church in February 1973 and became the first choir director.
As the church grew, she became the pianist for the entire church, a position from which she will retire on Oct. 30.
Peoples has served in many other capacities and members of the congregation say she has always been willing to serve whenever and wherever she is needed. They describe her as a dedicated yet humble servant of God.
“Thank you, God, for making her life an example of Your teaching. Thank you, Sister Peoples, for the services you rendered and the life you exemplified throughout the years. We love you and want you to know we are happy for you and we continue to say, ‘Thank you, God, for a spiritual legend in her own time,’” said a statement from the church.
People’s service will be honored at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, at the church, 9801 NW 24th Ave.
