Pastor of Calvary Chapel resigns

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — The senior pastor of Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale has resigned after confessing to a “moral failing.”

Church leaders made the announcement Sunday to a large crowd gathered for a special meeting.

A statement issued by the church said Pastor Bob Coy will be “focusing his full attention on his personal relationship with God and with his family. “

Coy has led the church since it was founded in 1985. The church announced that the media ministry that distributes Coy’s Bible teaching through radio, television and digital media also has been suspended.

The statement said the church will provide counselors and ministers who will help guide him “through the process of full repentance, cleansing and restoration.”

The church has multiple locations across South Florida.
