RIVIERA BEACH — Volunteers are needed to help cleanup Riviera Beach neighborhoods. As part of the annual Great American Cleanup, Riviera Beach needs a flood of hands from 8 a.m. to noon, on April 12 and also April 19.

Students earn four hours of community service. All volunteers will receive a free lunch, free commemorative T-shirt and all necessary clean-up supplies.

“We ordered 100 T-shirts last year and ended up needing 127. This year we ordered 150 T-shirts. We just hope for the best,” said Site Coordinator Bernice Wooten of Neighbors United of Riviera Beach, the group that has spearheaded the cleaning up of Monroe Heights for many years.

To participate in the Monroe Heights cleanup, volunteers should meet at Monroe Heights Park, located at 25th Street and Avenue M, and fan out across the neighborhood from there, picking up trash in the area generally bounded by 37th Street, Old Dixie Highway, Blue Heron Boulevard and Avenue R.

The event is one of four cleanups occurring within Riviera Beach, and all need volunteers. All are sanctioned by the national Keep America Beautiful campaign and its local affiliate Keep Palm Beach County Beautiful Inc., which provides cleanup supplies and T-shirts.

Mayor Thomas A. Masters and Councilman Terence ‘T.D.’ Davis are co-hosting with Neighbors United, in partnership with Keep Palm Beach County Beautiful.
