Lauren Book will stop along the way for events to raise abuse awareness and encourage victims to speak out. Last year she walked 500 miles.

Book was sexually abused by a nanny for more than six years, beginning when she was 10. She and her father, lobbyist Ron Book, run a nonprofit organization that helps victims and seeks new laws.

She is seeking passage of a law that would allow evidence of prior sexual crimes to be admitted at trial, provide relocation assistance for victims, require HIV testing for offenders and include internet safety in health education courses.
