cruise-royal_web.jpgYou may be keen to take a break from your smartphone or tablet while on vacation, but don’t power down just yet. Booking and planning your trip can be a breeze when you have innovative travel apps involved – and then you’ll get to the beachside relaxing part even faster. Here are some top travel apps to send you in the right direction.

Expedia

Expedia’s mobile app exceeds the brand’s reputation as a go-to travel search and booking website. The app offers the ability to search, book and view all of your Expedia itineraries in real-time as well as mobile-only deals where you can uncover exclusive discounts — sometimes up to 40% off  — on last-minute hotel bookings. The Webby-award-winning app also provides Expedia Rewards Points that you can redeem for discounts and freebies on future trips.

Kayak

Another award-winning booking app, Kayak allows you to pre-pay for flights, hotels and car rentals. Other handy features include being able to manage, sync and share your itineraries; track flight status; request mobile price alerts; get direct airline phone numbers and find and compare travel deals around the world (and around the Internet). Never been able to find an affordable flight to get you on that Caribbean cruise you’ve been eyeing? Give Kayak a go.

Royal Caribbean International

No need to jump on your computer to book a Royal Caribbean International cruise. The cruise line’s mobile app gives you the option of both browsing and booking your vacation as well as checking out ship and ports of call facts (did you know the cruise line has its own private destination in Haiti?), deck plans, stateroom descriptions and special offers.

Hilton Hotels & Resorts

If a hotel is one of your vacation needs, consider downloading the Hilton mobile app which allows you to book rooms in over 540 worldwide Hilton hotels and resorts right from your device. The app offers full Hilton website integration, so you can take care of everything you would otherwise do online, including changing reservations, checking in electronically and customizing your quarters with extra down pillows or a little celebratory champagne.

Packing Pro

The number of active verbs in this app’s description proves how much a packing helper it can be. You can choose from sample packing lists or have the app automatically create a list for you based on who you’ll be traveling with, your destination, how long you’ll be gone and more.

Browse through a catalog of over 800 items to add, customize your list with fonts and colors and check off items as you pack them. Remembering your swimsuit will make parasailing and snorkeling a whole lot more feasible.

Let technology be your best friend as you prepare to jet set. Then let the Facebook updates wait until you get home.
