Riviera Beach, Fla. -A Palm Beach County icon’s presence is no more. At least not as we once knew it. Legendary radio personality Reggie Dee is no longer with Hubbard Radio’s X102.3FM, Palm Beach’s premier urban station. He was the station most celebrated personality for over 15 years.

The reason for the separation is not unveiled but there was likely tension between the two parties based on reports from recent years. Sources say the deejay was increasingly feeling restricted and limited in scope at the station, though he has neither confirmed nor denied. During much of his tenure at the Black-formatted station, he was noticeably crisscrossing the county from one point to the other in the radio station van- vibrant, energetic and gregarious.

Still, onlookers say they would have liked the station to have boosted their efforts towards their popular air personality.

However, the official explanation of the parting of ways is that the radio icon wants to focus on his Foundation and can now explore avenues and projects he’s longed to embark upon. Now He’s poised to do so.

Hubbard Radio would only say they love Reggie and support his desires and endeavors and are 100 percent behind him and his Reggie Dee Foundation. The two entities plan to say their public goodbyes on air this week, we have ascertained. Reggie has stated that he plans to make a statement regarding his status with the radio station soon.

In previous interviews he has alluded to wanting to expand his horizons beyond radio. “I want to bring events to town along the scope of an Essence Festival. I want to focus more on community outreach, diversity, financial literacy. I want to do more random acts of kindness across the state of Florida. There’s so much more to do with my foundation!” he quipped recently.

Many of his former bosses and colleagues have long since said he deserves a national platform because of his tremendously exciting demeanor. It was television and radio host Steve Harvey that encouraged him to take a leap of faith and come to Florida in the first place. Now many of his cohorts are telling him that more national endeavors await him.

While in Florida he has amassed a following and supporters that include Martin Luther King Coordinating Director Edith Bush, who erected a brick in his name at the foot of the MLK Monument in West Palm Beach. He has the ardent support and admiration of Patrick Franklin, President and CEO of the Urban League of Palm Beach County. He has received the Key to the City in West Palm Beach and also in Riviera Beach and he’s been honored and revered by Palm Beach County’s Jewish Community.

His departure from local radio will leave a void on Palm Beach County’s airwaves.
