nephe-georges_web.jpgMIAMI GARDENS — The winners of a recent art contest sponsored by Miami-Dade County School Board District 1 School Board Member Wilbert “Tee” Holloway were recently announced.


The first-place winners in the District 1 Visual Arts Exhibition, titled, “The Future as You See it,” are:

Grades 2-5: a group project, North Glade Elementary

Grade 8:
Danzel King, Norland Middle School

Grade 12: Nephe Georges, Miami Norland High School.

The second-place winners are:
Grade 5: Andrea Calvo, Scott Lake Elementary

Grade 7: Ashley Garner, Carol City Middle School

Grade 12:
Jessica Jeanfelix, Miami Norland High School.

The third-place winners are:

Grade 5: Trisha Pierre-Louis, Crestview Elementary School

Grade 8: Kinyah Cadet, Norland Middle School.

The winners of the Renay Rossi Award of Excellence are:

Grade 2: Raven Harden, Parkway Elementary School

Grade 7:  Ashley Garner, Carol City Middle School

Grade 12: Nephe Georges, Miami Norland High School.


Holloway sponsored the contest in conjunction with Miami Gardens Councilman Oliver G. Gilbert III and the Dade Art Educators Association. The awards ceremony took place at Miami Carol City High School on May 12. Artist Joseph C. Grant Jr. gave the featured address.

The evening also featured an exhibition of art created by District 1 students, jazz performances by the Miami Carol City High School band and miming by the school’s drama program.
