BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) – Jesse Jackson is supporting reparations for victims of a church bombing that killed four black girls in Birmingham in 1963. The Chicago-based activist published a commentary this week saying Congress should act now to compensate bombing survivor Sarah Collins Rudolph.
Rudolph and the brother of another bombing victim went public last week saying they want compensation for the bombing of the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church.
Rudolph and a man whose sister died in the blast, Fate Morris, say they'll turn down a congressional medal proposed to honor the victims.
Sisters of two other victims are supporting the medal and say they don't want money.
But Jackson says the bombing victims deserve compensation, like victims of the 9/11 terror attacks.
Three Ku Klux Klansmen were convicted in the church bombing.
