CARY, N.C. (AP) _ A Minnesota-based company specializing in 3D printing will be expanding its Wake County operations and is expected to create 170 new jobs over the next five years.

Multiple media outlets report North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory announced on Thursday that Proto Labs, Inc. will be more than doubling its Cary workforce and plans to invest more than $25 million in the town during that time period.

Proto Labs is eligible to receive a $150,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund if it meets hiring and investment milestones.

Rob Connelly, Proto Labs’ Vice President of Additive Manufacturing, says the company’s North Carolina facility will play a critical part in advancing 3D-printing technology.

Proto Labs currently employs 106 people in Cary. The company is based in Maple Plain, Minnesota.
