A steady flow of hopeful contestants auditioned for a spot to compete in the Digicel Rising Stars Florida competition at Nova Southeastern University on Saturday, Oct. 15. Singers, poets and bands all laid it on the line for the judges who were quite impressed by the high caliber of talent exhibited by many of the contestants.
A second audition was Oct. 22, at Marcia’s Café, where judges selected contestants to compete at the semifinals on Oct. 26 at Ginger Bay Café in Hollywood.
In search for the “Perfect 10,” the Digicel Rising Stars Florida competition will culminate with the winner being crowned at the 10th annual Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival on Sunday, Nov. 13, on the Digicel Stage at Makrham Park in Surise.
The grand prize winner will walk away with $1,000, main stage appearance at the festival, a recording session from Joe Frasier Records and a fast track to Season 9 of the Digicel Rising Stars contest in Jamaica. Twelve finalists will be selected at the semifinals in three categories.
The Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival is touted as the biggest Caribbean food festival in the U.S.
