stephanie_kraft_web_1.jpgThe Broward State Attorney’s Office obtained warrants for the arrests of Broward School Board member Stephanie Kraft and her husband Mitch Kraft.

They have been charged with unlawful compensation, bribery, official misconduct and conspiracy.

Both surrendered at the Broward Main Jail this morning.

The charges are related to alleged illegal assistance the Krafts allegedly gave to developers Bruce and Shawn Chait who own Prestige Homes.

mitch_kraft_web.jpgThe father-and-son team hired Mitch Kraft to help them secure a waiver on required development fees for one of their projects; the waiver amounted to a $500,000 reduction in fees.

Prosecutors with the Broward State Attorney determined Stephanie Kraft pushed school staff to put on the agenda the reduced development fees that her husband arranged.

Instead of declaring a conflict, she left the dais when the vote took place and was approved.

Warrants for the Krafts’ arrest were signed by Broward Circuit Judge Jeffrey R. Levenson. Bond has already been set at $9,000 each.  If convicted on all counts, the Krafts each face up to 30 years in prison.
