WEST PALM BEACH — Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in West Palm Beach will serve as a Prostate Cancer Educational Symposium magnet site for Florida on Saturday, June 15 from noon – 4 p.m. Men and their families are invited to attend at Tabernacle, 801 Eighth St.
The symposium is part of the fifth annual Prostate Health Education Network (PHEN) Father’s Day Rally Against Prostate Cancer, being hosted nationwide on Father’s Day, Sunday June 16.
Other Florida churches that will participate in the Father’s Day Rally on Sunday include Mt. Hermon AME Church in Fort Lauderdale, Mount Olive AME Church in Fort Myers, Greater Mt. Zion AME Church in St. Petersburg, Mt. Zion Progressive Missionary Baptist Church in St. Petersburg, Greater St. Paul AME Church in Orlando and Mount Moriah AME Church in Tarpon Springs.
“Knowledge is the best defense against prostate cancer” are watchwords for PHEN, given that one of every five black men in the U.S. reportedly is
diagnosed with prostate cancer, and those fathers and sons die from the
disease at a rate 2.4
times higher than men of other racial and ethnic groups.
The agenda for Saturday’s Prostate Cancer Educational Symposium at Tabernacle includes understanding the prostate; prostate cancer screening and early detection; treatments and clinical trials for recurring and advanced disease; the importance of faith in healing; and a networking lunch.
