MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) _ The school superintendent in Marietta is proposing pay increases for teachers.

Superintendent Emily Lembeck’s proposed budget for the coming year includes an average pay increase of 6.95 percent for all certified teachers.

The school board is now reviewing that plan.

The Marietta Daily Journal (http://bit.ly/1I2cHkc ) reports teachers with a bachelor’s degree would receive a 7.5 percent raise. Those with a master’s degree would receive a 7.8 percent raise. And teachers with a specialist’s degree would receive an 8.4 percent raise.

School Board Chairwoman Irene Berens said the raise is overdue. She said it’s been a long time since the city was able to consider raising pay.
