TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) – Florida is going to spend nearly $37 million to help improve the water quality of several springs across the state. Gov. Rick Scott on Wednesday announced the list of the projects that will receive a combination of state and local funding. The state is putting in slightly more than $11 million.
The projects range from the Panhandle to central Florida and target springs such as Silver Springs in Ocala, Ichetucknee Springs in Lake City and Jackson Blue Spring in Marianna.
Silver Springs is getting $20.3 million in state and local funding to upgrade and relocate wastewater facilities to reduce nitrogen pollution in the springs.
Ichetucknee Springs is receiving nearly $4 million in state money in order to improve wastewater that is currently routed to a sprayfield south of Lake City.
