Wellington – In celebration of Black Business Month, Sandy Collier, founder and CEO of Hey, Sandy! PR & Communications, and a proud Bahamian American, newsroom veteran, mother of six, and media matchmaker, is on a mission to amplify the stories of Black-owned businesses and nonprofits across South Florida and beyond.

Born and raised in The Bahamas, Collier, in 1992 after Hurricane Andrew devastated South Florida, volunteered to help families affected by the storm, and during that effort, met a local news crew.

That moment sparked a lifelong passion for storytelling and opened the door to her first newsroom internship.

She quickly rose through the ranks, eventually holding positions at WSVN Channel 7 in Miami, NewsRadio 610 WIOD, and later WLWT in Cincinnati, covering major national stories including the Elian Gonzalez custody saga, Palm Beach County’s “Hanging Chad” controversy, and local reactions to the 9/11 attacks.

She made headlines herself when she gave birth to her fifth child in the back of a news car.

After settling in West Palm Beach, Collier joined CBS12/WPEC, where she became assignment manager. There, she coordinated breaking news coverage and worked closely with reporters, photographers, and producers.

In 2017, after her husband passed away and her son faced a potential health crisis, Sandy made the life-changing decision to leave the newsroom and launch her dream business: Hey, Sandy! PR & Communications.

“My goal is to get the spotlight on local businesses, big or small, corporate or homegrown,” said Collier.

Collier takes pride in making PR feel accessible to those who thought they couldn’t afford it or didn’t know where to begin.

The St. Thomas University graduate and CEO of a Black woman-owned PR firm dedicated to uplifting underrepresented voices, with more than 20 years in the news industry, serves primarily Blackowned small businesses and nonprofits, groups often left out of traditional media conversations.

She also continues to give back through community service projects and fundraising campaigns, especially for The Bahamas, and serves as a trusted bridge between South Florida media and the stories that matter.

“My mission is to provide high-quality, personalized PR that helps clients shine,” said Collier.

“I value innovation, collaboration, and diversity, and I bring that to every story I help tell.”
