Since Oct. 7, the global community has been engaged in a contentious debate surrounding Israel and Palestine. On both sides, people are outraged at the massacre of innocent civilians. However, as the death count of civilians skyrockets in Gaza, concerns of a humanitarian crisis have broken out internationally. Israel has broken 28 U.N. resolutions in the last two months, and the Israeli Defence Force attacks have killed almost 23,000 Palestinians, 70% of whom were women and children. Despite all this information, statements supporting Palestine are frequently met with the same accusation: antisemitism. Many people who have made statements on social media in support of a ceasefire or Palestinian liberation have lost their jobs or have been lambasted. However, these accusations are completely untrue and made in bad faith. It is crucial to recognize that standing for Palestine is not a religious stance, but a humanitarian one. Christians, Muslims, Jews, and Atheists alike have all stood up in support of Palestine because they have recognized the occupation and war crimes that were committed by one country against another. Criticizing the actions of a government is not the same as being discriminatory to the religion they happen to practice. Those accusations are meant to silence Palestine supporters, not to actually support Jewish people.
