WASHINGTON (AP) _ National parks and historic sites in D.C., Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia are hosting events and exhibits to highlight black history in the region.
Special tours will be offered throughout February at Antietam National Battlefield in Sharpsburg, Md., and at Manassas National Battlefield Park in Virginia. The Harpers Ferry National Historic Park in West Virginia hosts an exhibit on abolitionist John Brown.
In Washington, Black History Month tours at the Frederick Douglass historic home will focus on his later life and government service after escaping from slavery.
At Ford's Theatre, the site will mark the 202nd birthday anniversary of President Abraham Lincoln on Feb. 11 and will host a living history program on African American soldiers in the Civil War on Feb. 28.
