PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (AP) – President Barack Obama says the U.S. has to stop thinking of water as a "zero-sum'' game and must do a better job of figuring out how to make sure everyone's water needs are satisfied.
He toured central California on Friday and warned that weather-related disasters, like the drought, will only get worse.
Obama announced more than $160 million in federal aid to help the state cope with its worst drought in more than 100 years.
He also says he'll ask Congress for $1 billion to create a fund to invest in research and pay for new technologies to help communities deal with climate change.
In California, Obama also held wide-ranging talks with Jordan's King Abdullah II.
Obama is spending the weekend in California and returns to Washington on Monday.
