DENVER (AP) – Prompted by the recent reopening of two high-profile police discipline cases, the American Civil Liberties Union is calling for a renewed internal investigation into a traffic stop of two black men.

Denver County Judge Aileen Ortiz-White last year threw out minor traffic charges against Ashford Wortham.

Wortham's passenger, Cornelius Campbell, had been taken out of the car but neither was arrested. Ortiz-White last year ruled that police conduct was “extreme, profane and racially motivated.''

An internal police investigation found it could not be determined who was telling the truth. Officers told investigators they were threatened. Police had no immediate comment on the ACLU's request.

The request comes on the eve of a rally in Denver Saturday by groups alleging police brutality.
