Quarantine zones around 2 farms hit with bird flu lifted

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) _ The State Board of Animal Health has lifted quarantines in Dickey and Lamoure counties that it put in place following confirmation of two bird flu outbreaks.

KOVC-AM reports the orders that restricted the movement of poultry in the six-mile zones surrounding two North Dakota turkey operations were lifted after two rounds of negative testing.

The two operations that have been affected by avian influenza are still quarantined and statewide movement of birds to shows, exhibitions and public sales is still prohibited until further notice.

The two cases of bird flu in North Dakota have led to the deaths of more than 100,000 birds combined. In the U.S., more than 47 million birds have been affected.
