If Christ Jesus walked the earth today, he would probably be an independent and because of the hypocrisy and lies of many Republicans, he would vote with the Democratic party.

While some of you may disagree, an examination of scripture will clarify the analysis. Matthew 23:23, states, “Woe onto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.”

Here, we find Christ Jesus expressing his grief and disappointment in the scribes and Pharisees when he spoke the word “Woe.” The scribes and Pharisees were legal experts and very sanctimonious; they held themselves out as being morally superior to the other Jews. But, Christ Jesus called them hypocrites because they claimed to have moral standards and beliefs to which their own behavior did not conformed. They were pretenders of holiness and deceivers. In essence, they were liars.

Similarly, and sadly, most of the sanctimonious Christian Republicans have proven themselves hypocritical liars and not what they purport to be. To substantiate this fact, consider how the white evangelical Christians supported Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election. Exit polls showed that about 80% of white evangelical Christians support Donald Trump in spite of his unfamiliarity with the Bible, his divorces, his vulgar rhetoric, his association with porn stars and his tens of thousands of lies.

Today, most evangelical Christians confirm they would vote for Donald Trump as president again in 2024, in spite of his attempt to overturn the 2020 presidential election by inciting an insurrection.

The most recent hypocrisy of the sanctimonious Christian Republicans is their unwavering support for senator candidate Herschel Walker in Georgia, who is running on an antiabortion platform, who said repeatedly that abortion is never acceptable, no matter the circumstance. Walker’s hypocrisy and that of Christian Republicans who support him is centered on his payment for an abortion for his now ex-girlfriend. She provided a receipt, a check from Walker and a get well card as proof, which has many calling Walker and the Republicans hypocrites.

On Wednesday a second woman similarly disclosed Walker paid for her abortion.

The hypocrisy continues among Christian Republicans by overwhelmingly supporting election deniers for various public offices during the upcoming national election. Almost half of the Republican nominees running for public office fully deny the legitimacy of the 2020 election. They contend the election was stolen from Donald Trump and some of them took action to overturn the results by voting not to certify election results.

Republicans are very much hypocrites like the scribes and Pharisees were in Christ Jesus day. But, Christ Jesus did not stop there, he also called the scribes and Pharisees hypocrites because they neglected the more important and moral principles underlying the Mosaic law, which are judgment, mercy and faith. When translating from the original Greek text, because the New Testament was originally written in Greek the word judgment means, justice, fairness, equality and impartiality; and the word mercy means, compassion, pity, and the desire to relieve the miserable; and the word faith means, reliance upon Christ Jesus for salvation, credence and moral conviction of religious truth.

The scribes and Pharisees failed to realize that to God, judgment, mercy and faith outweighed the law (mosaic law). Yes, certainly, God wants us to obey His laws, such as the Ten Commandments (Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, etc.). Yes, God is adamantly against sin and expects us to oppose sin as well, but, when enforcing the law, God expects us to first consider fairness, justice, equality, impartiality (which is judgment), compassion, pity, the desire to relieve the miserable (which is mercy), reliance upon cries for salvation, credence and moral conviction-a religious truth(which is Faith). Christ Jesus is saying that these “weightier matters” must be applied before applying the law.

When Congress and local governments are legislating laws, these “weightier matters” should be at the forefront of every enactment. Even when combating the major political issues of this upcoming election, such as abortion, crime, financial stability, we must consider the above mentioned “weightier matters.” Democrats are quick to tell you that they are depending on God‘s grace and mercy every day. They are the opposite of the Republicans who pretend to be holier than thou.

Consider, Matthew 28:19; where Christ Jesus told His church to “Go ye therefore and preach (meaning, make disciples of…) all nations (meaning, all people), baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost.”

You see, Christ Jesus is telling the church to do this, not the politicians and the government. Christ Jesus did not tell the church to go forth and campaign for and elect a political candidate who will legislate morality. He told the church to go and make disciples of all peoples, who will then obey God’s Commandments and come out of sin. This is the responsibility of all Christians both Republicans and Democrats.
