MIRAMAR, Fla. – The Miramar City Commission honored Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley with the Global Africa Ubuntu Lifetime Achievement for her leadership in climate justice, economic development, and global advocacy for people of African descent.
The award was presented on June 18, 2026, in Miramar, Florida, by Miramar Commissioner Avril Cherasard on behalf of Africans in Action, Inc., the City of Miramar, and organizers of the Global Africa Symposium.
In remarks at the ceremony, Cherasard praised Mottley as “a true role model, a mentor, and a fearless example of what it means to lead from the front on the global stage,” highlighting her influence on international diplomacy and sustainable development policy.
Mottley, who has become one of the most visible voices from the Caribbean on global climate issues, said the recognition was humbling and emphasized the importance of collective effort in addressing global challenges.
“I really want to thank you for this recognition,” she said. “When we fight these battles, we don’t expect to earn recognitions such as this… the work that we’re doing only means something when we’re able to persuade more and more people together.”
