MIAMI – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Earth Ethics Institute, in collaboration with AIA Miami, will host Health & the Built Environment: How Architecture, Planning & Healthcare Intersect, at 8:30 a.m., Friday, Jan. 11, at the Wolfson Campus in downtown Miami.
The program will include a panel discussion moderated by Bernard Zyscovich on how buildings affect people’s health and how architects, planners and health professionals can work together to create healthier buildings and cities.
Panelists include Rick Bell, FAIA, executive director of the AIA New York Chapter; Karen Lee, MD, MHSc, director, Built Environment & Active Design Program for the NYC Department of Health; and Bob Cambric, director of Policy & Planning for the South Florida Regional Planning Council.
After the discussion there will be a tour of MDC’s new classroom building, designed by Zyscovich Architects. This building is the first building in Miami to use the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Innovation Credits for Active Design, which were developed in a partnership between AIA New York and the New York City Department of Health.
The cost to attend the event is $25 for the general public, $15 for American Institute of Architects, Miami Chapter (AIA Miami), American Planning Association, Florida Chapter Gold Coast (APA), United States Green Building Council (USGBC) members, and free for MDC faculty, staff and students.
