EBENEZER DRIVE-THROUGH FOOD DISTRIBUTION: Ebenezer United Methodist Church in partnership with Young Adult Missional Movement and United Methodist Commission on Relief Global Ministries has announced the re-launch of the Food Distribution Ministry on the second and fourth Saturdays each month, coming next on Saturday, May 8, 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., at 2001 N.W. 35th St., Miami. Free and open to the public, participants will receive food (perishables and non-perishables, based upon availability), temperature checks, and blood pressure screenings, in addition to health education information and resources. The drive-through distribution requires all attendees to remain in their cars at all times. Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) will be available for distribution, while supplies last. "AUTHORS AND ART, MOTHER’S DAY BRUNCH": Hear the stories of Mothers on Sunday, May 9 – Mother’s Day – 11 a.m.- 3 p.m., at the Historic Ward Rooming House Gallery, 249 NW 9th St., Miami, through the narrative of their published works. Featuring author Adia Kamaria, South Florida raised, Chicago-born wife and mother of two and educator who has published two books, the novel “Ana’s Magic,” followed by the memoir “Yellow Tulips & Red Buses,” which recounts her experiences living and studying in London as a once 30-something single woman. The event also features Camasha Cevieux, author of the “Ambition Collective,” and Daneisha Freeman, an experienced clinical social worker and newly published author of her first children’s book series titled, “Miya’s Guardian Angel,” created to help her young daughter and other children like her cope with the loss of a loved one. CALL FOR PAPERS ON SLAVERY BY MAY 15: The Princeton Theological Seminary and joint sponsors Howard University School of Divinity and the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture are calling for individual and panel paper proposals for a virtual conference titled “‘The Troubles I’ve Seen’: Religious Dimensions of Slavery and Its Afterlives.” The conference to be held Oct. 22-23 will examine the long-term effects of the enslavement of Africans in America from a unique perspective.
