FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Broward Health leadership, local dignitaries, physicians and community members recently gathered to celebrate the official ribbon cutting of Broward Health’s inaugural freestanding emergency room.

The first of its kind in Lighthouse Point, the new ER significantly expands access to critical, high-quality emergency medical services for residents across northern Broward County.

Located at 5360 N. Federal Highway, Broward Health has transformed a 1.03-acre site into a state-of-the-art, two-story, 14,074-square-foot emergency room designed to deliver hospital-level emergency care to an anticipated 18,000 patients annually, with additional physician offices on the second floor.

There are 10 emergency exam rooms on the first floor and advanced diagnostic services, including CT scans and X-rays, point-of-care laboratory testing, a resuscitation room and ambulance access. Eight additional exam rooms on the second floor are designated for medical and physician offices, further enhancing access to care in the community.

Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the Broward Health Lighthouse Point ER will be fully licensed and equipped to provide care for both adult and pediatric patients. Patients requiring hospitalization or specialized treatment will have seamless access to Broward Health’s network of hospitals, physicians and specialty services.

The project is anticipated to generate $15 million for the local economy, creating 30 full-time jobs.

“Today’s ribbon cutting represents a significant investment in the health and well-being of our community,” said Broward Health President & CEO Shane Strum. “For residents of Lighthouse Point, Deerfield Beach, Pompano Beach and surrounding communities, this ER provides convenient access to advanced emergency care and the trusted expertise of the Broward Health team close to home.”

The opening of the Broward Health Lighthouse Point ER is part of Broward Health’s broader strategy to modernize healthcare delivery and bring services closer to the communities it serves throughout Broward County.

Reflecting the regional importance of the facility, city officials from Lighthouse Point, Deerfield Beach and Pompano Beach attended to voice their strong support and enthusiasm.

The celebration featured remarks from healthcare executives and local leaders who underscored the impact of the new ER on regional healthcare access.

During the event, Florida State Representative Chip LaMarca’s office presented the Broward Health leadership team with a special tribute honoring the new space and recognizing its vital role in the community.

“The opening of our first freestanding emergency room, located in Lighthouse Point, reflects Broward Health’s commitment to meeting our community where they are and ensuring patients have access to high-quality emergency care when every minute matters,” said Matthew K. Garner, CEO of Broward Health North. “This new ER not only helps eliminate barriers to care; it also strengthens the seamless, connected continuity of care that Broward Health delivers across the entire region.”

Ahead of the ceremony, attendees were invited inside for guided tours of the space, offering a firsthand look at the ER’s advanced medical capabilities.

While the Broward Health Lighthouse Point ER is slated to begin serving the community this June, residents in Sunrise and Fort Lauderdale can look forward to additional ERs openings in their neighborhoods in the very near future.

The Broward Health Sunrise ER will offer both adult and pediatric emergency services at West Oakland Park Boulevard and North Pine Island Road and is planning a July 2026 open date.

Meanwhile, Broward Health is partnering with the YMCA of South Florida and the City of Fort Lauderdale to bring an approximately 10,000-square-foot emergency care center to Holiday Park.

Slated for completion in 2027, the facility will uniquely integrate full emergency services with community health and wellness programming.
