GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — The black artist whose paintings often include a shadowy Confederate flag is speaking at the Greenville County Museum of Art.

Leo Twiggs will speak Sunday at the museum about his exhibition there titled “Last Flags.” The 80-year-old artist from Orangeburg has had more than 70 solo shows over his career, including the one at the museum.

He says he’s enjoying his best year as an artist.

Twiggs has said he hopes the works of the Confederate flag and faceless men with bulls-eyes on their backs help people understand their shared history. He says the flag and the Civil War are part of the history of all Americans.
