West Palm Beach – At an Historic Northwest Community Meeting hosted Thursday at the revitalized Sunset Lounge, 609 8th St. in West Palm Beach, residents such as Isaac Robinson, Jr., below left, and Robbie Littles, both former city commissioners, were provided the opportunity to view the historic venue. Residents roamed the facility following presentations such as a Downtown Masterplan update and mobile phone survey of resident needs and interests. Genia Baker, below right, city’s deputy redevelopment manager, and Dr. Alisha Winn, bottom left, cultural anthropologist, consultant and educator, shown with resident Annie Harrison Nelson, were among the officials on hand to answer visitors’ questions and share other information regarding the restoration, such as finding the buried bottles, and vintage record albums also recovered during the work, now displayed on the venue walls. The first official event, after the Boney James concert last week, will be the Soul in the City Jazz Experience on Nov. 19, with other events scheduled for subsequent weeks. The Community Redevelopment Center is operating the facility, as the legal impasse over who ultimately gets to run the sparkling new venue continues.
