FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The collaborative masterwork of The Art Prevails Project is creating major waves in the South Florida arts community and uncovering the extraordinary talent that resides in the Greater Broward and Miami-Dade counties.

The program, which was founded by writer, director and educator Darius V. Daughtry, highlights emerging writers and performers by offering an outlet to create original content that is performed in both traditional and non-traditional spaces throughout South Florida.

Daughtry, whose hand has been in the creation and expansion of many local spoken word and art concentrated youth programs over the last decade, aims to direct the project with one key goal in mind.

“We will strive to expand conversations through artistic and cultural experiences by making art and artistic happenings more accessible to the people,” Daughtry said.

for good Art Prevails offers a wide range of performance enhancing classes and workshops that equip performers with the right approach to engage and inspire audiences.

The root of the program’s artistic method is through the use of music, theatrics and poetry, which its founder views to be a building block for the program’s future.

The project also creates custom performances for events, businesses and community organizations and even hosts numerous events including: “Saturday Session,”

which is a monthly-curated mini-festival that features poets, singers, musicians and more.

Saturday Session is a free community event that also supports small businesses by providing vendor space for a variety of special opportunities.

It is held every first Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the middle of the historic Sistrunk community and in conjunction with the Broward Cultural Division and The Housing Authority. It provides residents with impactful experiences in their own backyard.

Art Prevails also recently debuted “The Happening: A Theatrical Mixtape Volume 1,” a multi-disciplinary show that explores social justice, equality and racial tensions in America.

The sold-out show, held at Fort Lauderdale’s Savor Cinema, received a standing ovation and rave reviews from the audience.

Future plans for the project include two additional full-stage productions, the continued monthly occurrence of “Saturday Session“ and increasing expansion and exposure of the fantastic artistry of the project.
