FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Broward County school district decided that students’ cell phones will remain shut off ahead of the 2025-2026 school year.
Broward County school board members revisited the issue following their decision in April that students’ cell phones are to be turned off during school hours.
This week, board members decided to uphold their own decision despite outrage by students and parents.
But they agreed to take up the issue again in the near future.
The school district imposed the new policy after complaints that students’ cell phone ringing and talking to friends and relatives is a distraction in the classrooms.
