(NWP) has announced the 4th Annual Juneteenth Concert Experience: “Imagination Unchained,” a transformative two-day celebration of Black heritage, creativity, and freedom, set for Friday, June 20, 7 p.m. at the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center, 3800 NW 11th Pl. Juneteenth marks the day on June 19, 1865, when enslaved people in Texas were emancipated, 2½ years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.
The momentous day symbolizes not only the end of slavery but also the ongoing legacy of Black Americans’ struggle for freedom, justice, and equality.
“Imagination Unchained” plays a vital role in preserving African American history while celebrating the resilience and accomplishments of Black communities as Juneteenth’s significance continues to grow nationwide.
The event, emceed by Franky Red, will feature a performance by acclaimed singer-songwriter Cande Rivers, whose soulful blend of jazz, soul, and storytelling will enchant audiences as part of the Juneteenth Concert Experience.
The Patra Baker Tech Fund Scholarship will be awarded to support the next generation of Black excellence. Music for the day is to be powered by Grammy Award-winning producer/DJ EchoSlim.
The event will also showcase a rich blend of live performances, spoken word, dance and visual art, highlighting Black culture’s diverse and powerful contributions.
"Performing at ‘Imagination Unchained’ is a deeply personal experience for me,” said Cande Rivers. “It reflects my journey and the legacy of Black music as a force for truth, healing, and freedom. I’m excited to share this moment with the audience."
Leading up to Juneteenth, NWP, in collaboration with Starbucks, will present Lit Café – Espresso & Expressions, parts of a monthly community conversation series designed to spark inspiration and foster cultural connection, June 1, 4 p.m., at Starbucks, 850 NW 62nd St., Fort Lauderdale.
The Juneteenth Concert Experience will feature live performances, storytelling, and engaging discussions, encouraging cultural exchange and fostering meaningful dialogue on economic impact, class, and freedom.
